Working with Vashti Harrison on BIG was a dream campaign. She was interviewed on NPR’s “All Things Considered,” The Stacks Podcast, The Daily Show, CBS Mornings, ABC News Prime, Parents Magazine, The New York Times Book Review, and more. Combined with a 10-city national author tour, BIG was an instant New York Times bestseller and a finalist for The National Book Award for Young People’s Literature, and the winner of the Caldecott Medal and a Coretta Scott King Award Honor!

Working with McSweeyney’s and Dave Eggers on the launch of THE EYES AND THE IMPOSSIBLE was one of the most unusual campaigns I’ve ever tackled as it was (to our knowledge) the first-ever book to be published in two editions, for two readerships, from two publishers. McSweeney’s published in an extravagant, die-cut wooden cover limited edition, whose target audience is general readers of all ages. Simultaneously, Knopf Books for Young Readers published a traditional hardcover, whose target audience is middle-grade readers. With this unique rollout, we were able to secure features in publications like PRINT Magazine and Fast Company, as well as interviews on NPR’s “All Things Considered,” The New York Times Book Review, The Denver Post, and more. The book received 5 Starred Reviews, raves from The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times Book Review and was an instant New York TImes Bestseller, debuting at #2 on the Middle Grade list and featured in the their “Inside the Best-Seller List” column, and went on to become the 2024 Newbery Medalist!

QUEER DUCKS (AND OTHER ANIMALS) by Eliot Schrefer was pure joy to work on! A vital contribution to an essential conversation, I worked with Eliot to position him as an expert in the animal sciences field, presenting ground-breaking research and interviews within his accessible, heart, and humor filled YA nonfiction title. Highlights include an incredibly powerful interview on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, an insightful conversation on NPR’s “All Things Considered,” and a laugh-out-loud, 1-hour party with Netflix’s Queer Eye star Jonathan Van Ness on his podcast “Getting Curious.

Working with Levine Querido on Darcie Little Badger’s sophomore novel, A SNAKE FALLS TO EARTH, was an absolute thrill. Building off of the success of her debut, Elatsoe, we were able to secure an exclusive first interview in TIME magazine (a two-page spread!), an interview on NPR’s Weekend Edition, feature’s in the Boston Globe, Texas Monthly, among others, which culminated in a Newbery Honor and numerous other awards and recognitions for Darcie.

Working with Caldecott honor winning illustrator Marla Frazee on this full-page illustrated essay for The New York Times Book Review was so much fun. From brainstorming the essay, to pitching and placement, we created a piece that speaks to Marla's journey as an artist and to the importance of wordless picture books. She would later be interviewed with author Mac Barnett on NPR’s Weekend Edition “Picture This” series for their collaboration on THE GREAT ZAPFINO.

I didn’t officially work on this title, but it was such a treat to book Matt de la Peña and Christian Robinson on Good Morning America for their incredible third collaboration, MILO IMAGINES THE WORLD.

IN-HOUSE CAMPAIGN HIGHLIGHTS

Launching Angie Thomas and her vitally important debut, THE HATE U GIVE, was an incredible honor.

The book received amazing coverage—from the Front Page (A1!) of The New York Times to NPR’s Weekend Edition, features in major outlets everywhere, and glowing reviews across the board—the book burst out of the gate with unbelievable momentum.

The phenomenon of THUG was an absolute thrill and continues to be one of the most important campaigns I’ve ever worked on.

PAX by Sara Pennypacker received a variety of outstanding coverage, from NPR to People Magazine, but this half page Wall Street Journal feature exclusive signaled early excitement and momentum.

Working with musician Colin Meloy and illustrator Carson Ells on their middle grade series launch of WILDWOOD provided many new angles and opportunities for coverage: a feature in the Wall Street Journal, a New York Times Arts Section feature, interviews in The Los Angeles Times, Time, and The Atlantic, and a personal favorite—an illustrated cover of their local Alternative Weekly, Willamette Week

Working with Maurice Sendak will remain an ultimate career highlight. From his memorable appearances on The Colbert Report, to his poignant interview on NPR’s Fresh Air, to a New York Times front page Arts Section feature, and Vanity Fair feature.
